PUBLIC ARTS COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES
January 9, 2017
COMMITTEE: Present: Nathan Samuel, Dawn Spyker—JPAA, Paul Northam, Jay Ellis, John McCarthy,
Melissa Goforth,

Meeting was called to order at 5:35pm
• Approval of minutes from December 12, 2016
• Motion made by Jay Ellis—motion 2nd by Paul Northam—5-0 approved
• New Business
• Review 2016 Project(s) Snapshot Document
a. 2016 Project Snapshot has been deferred to next month's meeting
• Review & Discuss 2017 Schedule of Projects
a. The JAC Committee reviewed the schedule of projects
• Abbey Road Art—next meeting the committee will discuss what involvement
they will have in this public engagement project.
b. Dawn reviewed the 2017 Kaleidoscope timeline with the committee
• Update on Fence Mural Installation
a. Half of the panels have been installed, there will be a chain link fence installed in the
back of the panels with a black mesh screen to hide what it behind the fence
b. Suggestion to have the fencing put around the water tank area.
c. The committee would like to support the grasses for the art work if it is affordable.
• Update on Tourism Grant
a. Dawn Spyker shared the Jeffersonville Arts & Cultural District Strategic Vision
• Formalizing JPAC (Nathan)
a. The mayor appointed Denise Freville as one of the 2017 commission committee and
has 4 more appointments plus a council member.
b. As a formalized committee we will responsible for creating policies on fundraising etc.
• Fieldtrip to an Arts & Cultural District Specifically? (To include: JPAC Commissioners,
Rep from Redevelopment, Rep from Council, Rep from UEZ, Rep from local Arts Alliance
and Rep from Rose Hill Neighborhood)
a. Dawn sent the committee an email regarding places to visit for the fieldtrip.
Roundtable:
a. Paul Northram shared the following budget updates:
• Sidewalk Art Project Phase I (this was taken out of 2016 budget)
• Art pads were put in and centered however the screws were put in wrong.
• We are about a week away from getting the new trash cans and benches.
• We have had a donation of an 8ft wooden steamboat—the committee is not sure
at this time what to do with this piece of art.
b. Jeffersonville Art Alliance will have a fundraiser on February 25, 2017—there will be an
auction/raffle, tickets for this event are$35.00 and will go on sale tomorrow January 10,
2017
c. Dawn Spyker was nominated for an award and will be presented Friday during a dinner.
d. Tonight will be Tammy Cordts' last night as stenographer for the committee, since the
formalizing of the committee there are a couple of city employees that have showed
interest in this position.
