HomeMy WebLinkAboutNOVEMBER 14,2016 I a I E d 9 ' 7Y 9 3 2 a a i F CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE PUBLIC ARTS COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES November 14, 2016 t COMMITTEE: Present: Melissa Goforth, John McCarthy, Paul Northam, Nathan Samuel, and Dawn Spyker (Public Art Administrator) STENOGRAPHER: Nathan Samuel ABSENT: Jay Ellis GUEST: Richard Eklund and Michael Wimmer I Meeting was called to order at S:36 pm ■ Approval of minutes from October 17, 2016 a Paul made a motion to approve the minutes,with one change, Melissa Gorforth was listed as being present and she was absent. Those will be changed. i • John second the motion to approve the minutes 4-0 i New Business: Sidewalk/Bench/Art Installation Program—Paul reported we have 4 locations(2 on Allison I Lane and 2 on Middle Road). Discussion took place surrounding the locations and art pieces. We plan on doing an RFP as soon as possible and Paul made the following motion— "Artpiece between 6'and 8'tall, not counting the pedestal,not more than 3'deep and 3'wide',provide a$3,000 stipend to the artist which must include materials,must be made from steel and colorful,and use the theme of transformation and nature."— s motion was seconded by John,4-0 vote. s • Nathan reported an ordinance is being crafted to more formalize and lay the foundation for our Public Art Commission; • Dawn updated on the work and potential plans for the Arts&Cultural district downtown; • Dawn requested we begin thinking about projects for 2017, it's time for more utility boxes, Nathan mentioned the triangular piece of ground on Veteran's, close to River Valley as a potential site, as well as the 4 sidewalk art pieces earlier discussed. t ! I 1 1 i { S 1 } } ■ Report: Sugar Skull Cultural Event—Dawn reported that it was a success! Many positive compliments about the authenticity and detail that went into it. Many students from Greater Clark County Schools were involved. She is having another meeting to debrief and determine what went well and what needs improvement. • Nachand Fieldhouse mural nearing completion. Artist, Jeremy Jarvis indicated about one more week. Many people have enjoyed stopping and watching him paint. Meeting adjourned at 7:15 pm I a Submitted by.
