PUBLIC ARTS COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES
August 8, 2016
COMMITTEE: Present, Nathan Samuel, Dawn Spyker—JPAA, Paul Northam, Melissa Goforth,
John McCarthy,

Meeting was called to order at 5:34 pm
• Approval of minutes from July 11,2016
• Melissa Goforth made a motion to approve the minutes
Paul Northam second the motion to approve the minutes 4-0
■ New Business:
• View Michael Wimmer sculpture, intended for Gray&Wells Comer
■ It's an abstract clock, made of steel, not sure if the time is accurate
• Dawn will have Michael Wimmer submit a proper application
■ Paul Northam made a motion to approve the sculpture if submission is
submitted correctly.
• John McCarthy second the motion all approve 4-0
• The committee reviewed the answers from community survey on floodwall content
• John made a motion to move forward with the Nachand Fieldhouse mural, Melissa
Goforth second the motion all approve 4-0.
• Dawn Spyker will collect historical information fo,-the artist.
• Review floodwall mural submissions(score&select an artist)
• The committee will look specifically for the following
• Realistic style
• Examples of outdoor work
■ Innovative/Original/Creative
■ Community appeal
• Aesthetic tie-in
• Dynamic compositional arrangement
• The votes were tallied and the winner is:Jeremy Jarvis
• Harmony Green Dedication
■ Saturday August 13, 2016
• Jazzercise Demo at 9am
■ Ribbon cutting at 10am
• Family fun 10:30-3:00
• Sponsorship Form Letter
• Dawn Spyker will be visiting the funeral homes in Jeffersonville and surrounding
areas asking for donations, their name will be put on the banner
• Report:
• Sugar Skull Cultural Event(Saturday October 22nd 9am-5pm) Big Four Park
• Site is LIVE!—sugarskullshake.com
• Race medals painted
■ Giant Calaca in Gray and Wells started
• Met with FOP this month& MADE A 5K ask
• JHS working on race brochure and on-line registration—Dawn is meeting with Jeff
High tomorrow
• Fieldtrips scheduled
• Craft demos being created (around$2500 for 12 tents—materials for$500)
• SBD Chalk Walk—information is up on the website—Dawn shared the online map and procedure for
the chalk walk
• SBD Updates on Art related activities—raffle tickets for the quilt are being sold at the farmer's market
starting this Saturday.
■ Bicentennial Puppet Project-
• Inform:
• 6/20/2016 the maintenance of Swing Sculpture will be ready, the floodwall on north side
