FIRE MERIT COMMISSION
The Jeffersonville Fire Merit Commission held a Regular Meeting on Thursday, August
4, 2016 in the first floor Council Chambers, 500 Quartermaster Court, Jeffersonville, W.

CALL TO ORDER:
Mr. Frey called the meeting to order at 6:OOPM. All Commissioners were present.
Mr. Monohan made a motion to accept the minutes of the July 7, 2016 meeting, Mr.
Kepfhammer seconded - the minutes were unanimously approved.
NEW BUSINESS:
- Per the August 4, 2016 request of Chief Hedrick 3 fire fighters, S. Quinones, C.
Boggs and J. Rick to the rank of Firefighter 2nd Class. Mr. Monohan so made the
motion; Ms. Barrow seconded—the motion passed unanimously.
- The Board received new hire list for the period 2016-2018 and agreed to certify it
effective 8/4/2016. Mr. Horvath so made the motion; Mr. Kepfhammer seconded—
the motion passed unanimously. Ms. Conen will email notices (with a read receipt)
to all notifying them of their place on the list.
- Chief Hedrick spoke about Safety Saturday—on 8/6/2016 there will be an Open
House at all stations from 10-noon. The theme will be Summer Safety. At noon the
storm siren will be tested. The Fire Museum is having a "Kids Saturday" on
8/13/2016
- On 8/29/2016, Chief Hedrick with meet with IPSP at 1:30 to discuss the upcoming
promotional testing. Currently 13 promotional packets have been turned in to Ms.
Conen who has given them to Mr. Masingo.
- National Night Out was Tuesday, 8/2/16. A Fire Truck was at each location—all
had an excellent turn out.
- The department responded to a person who went down on a tennis court in full
arrest. They used the AED and CPR and were able to resuscitate him. Fire Fighters
B. Sneed, J. Jones and C. Ogden.
- Mr. Hurt wanted to clarify the promotional process in that the fire fighters only need
to turn in the required information—which was correct. Tactical Interviews are set
for 3 days. The Department has been working with the Community Kitchen which
needs donations. They might try to do a fund raising roadblock. All roadblocks
need to be approved by the Fire chief and the Board of Public Works. The
vandalism to the FF Union Building was extensive. Insurance covered must of the
damage, fire fighters worked on it and Bobby Petrino donated money.
- Ms. Barrow welcomed Mr. Dave Rich, father of Justin Rich
Adjournment:
Mr. Horvath made a motion to adjourn; Ms. Barrow seconded. The meeting was
adjourned at 6:45.

Merit Commissioners,
After a review of a performance evaluation of the below listed probationary member(s) and per:
-IC 36-8-3.5-12(h)
-Jeffersonville Fire Merit Commission Rules (Rule and Procedure#2, section VIII)
I recommend that the below member(s) receive a permanent appointment of employment to the
Jeffersonville Fire Department. The determination for promotion was made by a thorough review of the
probationary period performance by Administration Staff, the member's Battalion Chief and the
member's immediate supervisor.
I have confidence in the training and experience of the below individual(s) and believe they possess the
skills, abilities and knowledge necessary to perform as the listed rank for the Jeffersonville Fire
Department.
