HomeMy WebLinkAboutJULY 11 2016 r coo CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE PUBLIC ARTS COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES July 11, 2016 COMMITTEE: Present: Nathan Samuel, Dawn Spyker—JPAA, Paul Northam, Jay Ellis, Melissa Goforth, and John McCarthy GUEST: Richard Eklund Meeting was called to order at 5:32pm 1. Approval of minutes from June 13, 2016 • With following changes Under New Business"pant"was changed to"paint'; and under Report" the 3`d bullet changed from "State Rep"to"a number of Representatives from the State, including Sen. Ron Grooms"; • Paul Northam made a motion to approve the minutes, Jay Ellis 2"d—4-0(Melissa Goforth had not arrived yet); 2. New Business: • View Glow in the Dark Materials for possible walking path from Big 4 to ACD(arts and cultural district): ■ Spyker had everyone go outside holding bags of samples that "charged"when in the sunlight,when the group came back inside they glowed brilliantly in a dark area. Next step is to get Redevelopment Commission to approve moving forward, since it would be on their property and part of their project. Spyker to contact Director Waiz and Mayor Moore. • Review Survey Monkey Questions for mural subject(floodwall call due 15`h of July): ■ The RFQ is due this Friday; ■ Discussion on what question(s)to put on website, "what do you see as the next panel being for the floodwall?"—McCarthy suggested adding categories for people to rate or select. Spyker will modify and put up questions and get ProMedia to share it or post it as well. • Basketball Court Design Approval (Vissing Park): • In his role as Parks Director, Paul Northam was seeking assistance with the design for naming two courts (Mike Flynn and Tony Winburn); ■ Input and suggestions were given based on the suggestions shown, any of the ones shown are approved by the Art Commission; • Was suggested that small, die-bond, signs be made up stating who each person is so people using the Courts will know the meaning. • IAC Grant Approved: • Spyker shared that our$5,000 grant was approved for the sand sculpting. 3. Report/Updates: • Sugar Skull-website up and looks great, JHS band committed; • SBD Chalk Walk-went over items for the bag, discussed types of chalk and sizes of the coloring areas, etc.; • SBD Art related activities--Artisan Village, Chalk, Sand Sculpture,Art-chery, etc. • Arts& Cultural District Meeting Developments-phone conference slated for 15"' with Carmen Lethig IHCDA; • Bicentennial Puppet Project(July 30`h Guest Speaker Jennifer Goodlander, IU Professor of Balinese Shadow Puppetry)coming. Commission approved overnight lodging since funding is available thru the grant; • Harmony Green Park dedication-next to Mom's Music-will be August 13`h; • JEFF Fest-dragonflies have been hung on the fence at Allison Brook Park; • Swing Sculpture Maintenance is complete. 4. Public Comment: • Richard Eklund asked about putting benches,trash cans and art pieces next to the new sidewalk being constructed on Middle Road/Allison Lane.
