HomeMy WebLinkAboutJULY 7 2016 CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE FIRE MERIT COMMISSION The Jeffersonville Fire Merit Commission held a Regular Meeting on Thursday, July 7, 2016 in the first floor Council Chambers, 500 Quartermaster Court, Jeffersonville, IN. Jeff Frey—President Tom Kepfhammer—Vice President Patricia Barrow— Secretary Kent Monohan—Board Member Bernie Horvath—Board Member Nathan Masingo —Attorney Connie Conen—Recording Secretary GUESTS: L. Gill, D. Dierking, B. Ervin, Chief Hendrick CALL TO ORDER: Mr. Frey called the meeting to order at 5:50PM. All Commissioners were present. Mr. Horvath made a motion to accept the minutes of the June 2, 2016 meeting, Mr. Monohan seconded - the minutes were approved. NEW BUSINESS: - Oral interviews for new applicants will be on July 18, 2016 at Fire Headquarters. Ms. Conen will mail the interview schedule to each applicant and will also send an email to those applicants. All Commissioners will be present for the interviews and there will be 2 boards so that all applicants will be seen by all Commissioners. The interviews will be 15 minutes. IPSP will compile the scores and create a new hire list. - The Promotional Testing Booklet was approved. Chief Hendrick will put it on the Fire Fighter mass email. All Promotional Testing applications must be turned in to Ms. Conen in the Human Resources Office by 4:OOPM on August 29, 2016. - Ms. Gill asked that the Council be provided a copy of the final list of applicants. Mr. Frey reiterated the new hire procedures. The Chief mentioned that he had received some questions regarding why some applicants were disqualified from taking the written test. - The Chief commented on an article in the paper regarding Fire Training at the Hanson Quarry. Mr. Renn was in charge of this training. Favorable comments have been received regarding Safety Saturdays at the Fire Houses. The Chief and Mr. J. Ames are looking at getting some community partners who will work with the Fire Department. - In August, 3 Firefighters—Mr. Quinones, Rich and Boggs will be coming off "Probationary Status". - There was some discussion regarding a new fire house in River Ridge—possibly in 5 years. The Chief will be moving a ladder truck station 2 to station 4 and will be looking at getting another engine at station 2. There has been a large amount of overtime due to many injuries all at the same time. Adjournment: Mr. Monohan made a motion to adjourn; Mr. Horvath seconded. The meeting was adjourned at 6:35.
