HomeMy WebLinkAbout08-26-2010CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE FIRE DEPARTMENT MERIT COMMISSION Thursday, August 26, 2010 6:00 PM The Jeffersonville Fire Department Merit Commission held a Regular Meeting on Thursday, August 26, 2010 in the Second Floor Conference Room, 500 Quartermaster Court, Jeffersonville, IN. The following were present: David Martin -President Jeff Frey -Board Member Lyn Ackermon -Board Member Ron Glass -Secretary/Treasurer Bobby Ervin-Board Member Greg Clark -Attorney Guests: Tony Harrod -Fire Chief Captain VanGilder -Jeffersonville Fire Department CALL TO ORDER: Mr. Martin called the meeting to order at 6:22 PM. PROMOTIONS The board will ask the Fire Chief for a list of fire fighters that are eligible for promotions. Mr. Ackermon made a motion to promote Firefighter T J Kiesler to Sergeant. Mr. Frey seconded. Motion passed unanimously. Mr. Ervin made a motion to promote Firefighter Eric Hedrick to Lieutenant. Mr. Glass seconded. Motion passed unanimously. Mr. Ackermon made a motion to promote Firefighter Rusty Hall to Captain. Mr. Glass seconded. Motion passed unanimously. JOHN GRANNON: Mr. Ackermon introduced Mr. John Grannon as a candidate for the Fire Merit Commission Attorney. Mr. Grannon is now the attorney for the Solid Waste Board. Mr. Grannon is a life long resident of Jeffersonville and would like to serve the community. When asked if he had any political affiliation he said he does not. He does have experience with local government code. JOSH THOMPSON: Mr. Clark delivered all of Josh Thompson's information to Assistant Chief Joe Lee. This should complete his hiring process. BATTALION CHIEF PROCESS: Mr. Clark received an email from Erin Smallwood at IPSP regarding the Battalion Chief process. The commission decided not to postpone the process. APPLICANTS: Mr. Clark has talked to applicants 2, 3 and 4. Two of the candidates will take their physical test Saturday, August 28, 2010. CAPTAIN VANGILDER: Captain Vangilder received a written reprimand for not following procedures following a traffic accident with a fire department truck. Information of the accident was given to Deputy Chief Grant. The driver of the truck was not sent for a drug test. Mr. Ervin made a motion to remove the written reprimand from Captain Vangilder's file. Mr. Glass seconded. Mr. Ackermon voted no and Mr. Frey abstained. The motion died. GREG CLARK: Mr. Clark received the new SOP books. Mr. Clark will have a copy for each of the merit commission members. ADJOURNMENT: Mr. Martin asked if there was any additional business. Hearing none Mr. Glass made a motion to adjourn the meeting. The meeting was adjourned at 7:45 PM APPROVED: ,r David Martin, President
